Nova island of stability

WebThe island of stability is a term from nuclear physics that describes the possibility of elements with particularly stable "magic numbers" of protons and neutrons. This would allow certain isotopes of some transuranic elements to be far more stable than others, that is, decay much more slowly. WebIslands of stability are groups of super heavy elements with the potential to have longer half-lives, in the order of several minutes, than their place on the periodic table would suggest. This is due to these elements having ‘magic numbers’ of protons and neutrons. The hypothesis is that the atomic nucleus is quantized in to energy levels.
