The station at Yelverton was the junction for Princetown Railway and opened in 1885.

It was built in the 1820's, by sinking a shaft which was then worked outwards. It was one of the first railway tunnels in England, & certainly the first in Plymouth. WebCann Tunnel was originally constructed as part of the Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway when horse-drawn trams were used to transport granite from quarries on Dartmoor down to Sutton Pool in Plymouth. According to my research, several sources date this tunnel as being constructed in or shortly after 1820.
